Trannys are not females unless they have three speeds.

I always get a good kick out of what appears on craigslist. There are certainly people out there who are doing their darndest to try to make a buck these days and while they are trying hard it’s next to impossible to make money off of selling bikes on CL. To start with bike manufacturers must buy in such quantity that they get components for next to nothing. I’ve looked at building up bikes often as the style of frame I prefer is generally one that went out of fashion around 1984 but bicycle componetry has advanced significantly during this time. Even a retro-grouch like myself can admit that modern double wall wheelsets, lightweight cranks, and other componentry can be far superior to their “vintage” (whatever that means, also a misused CL term) counterparts. I think there is a legitimate case to be made that the broad groups of bicycles is a subject for debate at times. A fixed gear is a fixed gear regardless but what is you use a “mountain” triple on a road bike such as I frequently do. Does it become a “hybrid” or something else altogether? Well last night a poster decided to take matters into their own hands and enlighten us on the differences between 3-speed “road” bikes and beach cruisers. Reprinted for you enjoyment is that post:

a 3 speed road bike IS NOT a beach cruiser. For those of you who are clueless…the first picture is a road bike the second picture is a beach cruiser.
